New Research Suggests: Find Happiness by Giving

November 10, 2011

Happiness Science and ResearchNew research out of UCLA suggests that if you give support to another person your actions benefit the recipient, and also YOU. “It now seems likely that some of the health benefits of social support actually come from the support we provide to others…This finding suggests that support-giving may have stress-reducing effects for the person who provides the support,” said Naomi Eisenberger, who directs UCLA’s Social and Affective Neuroscience Laboratory. These results go hand-in-hand with one of my favorite quotes from Chicago Ideas Week, from Agustina Woodgate:

Give, accept, reciprocate. The gift must always move.

Another article from ABC News, which I cited in my post about the Science & Research of Happiness, highlights studies that suggest changes through meditation can make you happier, less stressed — even nicer to other people.

Meditation and Giving–two stress-reducing actions to keep in mind during stressful times. Thank you for reading, pursue happiness, and always letUbeU!
