The Final Numbers for our Earth Day Pizza & Recycling Party

April 24, 2012

Thank you to everyone who participated in the #EarthPizza event brought to you by the Chicago Conservation Corps and letUbeU. If you didn’t make it, you missed out on a reusable handbag filled with 1 free admission to Green Festival, 1 free admission to Nature on Tap, a low-flow aerator, and a $1 bill. I’ll explain the $1 bill in a post later. And you would have learned that paper is the most commonly found recyclable material in Chicago’s waste stream. And the average American uses 100 gallons of water/day. In comparison, they use 2 gallons/day in Ethiopia. Think about your rate of consumption…

These are the final numbers for #EarthPizza:

32 people showed up

26 pounds of small electronics were collected for recycling

26 pounds of electronics

8 creative ideas to reuse a plastic clamshell (that previously housed a salad). My favorite idea is a gift box. I also love that someone was very excited about homemade cupcakes. What are your ideas for a creative reuse of this product?

21 pounds of books collected for recycling and reuse. One of the books I’ll reuse:

book recycling

$193.64 worth of pizza, salad, and soft drinks were consumed

$80.00 donated to Charity:water–the leftovers after the $10 cover charge paid for food, drinks, and Bacino’s Pizza employees

7 creative ideas to reuse a cardboard poster holder. My favorite is a wine bottle holder, but cable/wire/extension cord storage is a great one as well. This would make for a fun piggy bank too. What are your ideas for a creative reuse of this product?
