My Life as an Entrepreneur – Creating An Effective To-Do List

November 6, 2012

Today the world population is about 7,079,105,780

One of the most effective tools to my progress as an entrepreneur is a To-Do List. Some people hand write their list in a notebook, others use Evernote (or other task management app), and some use a whiteboard. I’ve used all 3 options in the past and the whiteboard has proven most effective for me. If you’re struggling to stay goal-oriented and organized, try the 5 task system below.

Task #1

has to get done today. It could take 5 minutes or 5 hours, but must get done.

Task #2

will require the most time and may not get accomplished today b/c it’s a piece of a much larger task. Spend at least 2 hours on it.

Task #3

is the least important of your tasks. but the sooner you do it, the less you have to do in the future. Depending on today’s productivity, #3 may appear somewhere else on the list tomorrow, or not at all. So, just get it done, you’ll be thankful tomorrow.

Tasks #4a, 4b, 4c….

are easy tasks, simple to accomplish. One of them is ALWAYS the first task to get done (it gives you that sense of accomplishment very early in the day), and one can be done without the internet (once the internet turns on, so do the distractions). Sometimes these tasks add up to 4m and most of the day is simple tasks.

The bottom line is a reminder of people to contact.

After you complete a task, erase it from the board. A blank board at the end of the day will allow you to sleep better. Finally, my To-Do list is always near a map (or globe)–a reminder of my long-term goals to travel around and protect the planet. Thanks for reading.
